Mariem Fahmi

Undergraduate Researcher


Mariem Fahmi is an undergraduate student at the University of Connecticut majoring in Physiology and Neurobiology. Under the supervision of Dr. Ryberg, she is researching various ways of utilizing chlorophyll in solar disinfection processes. She is particularly interested in understanding how molecules interact with contaminants and influence treatment efficiency, with the broader goal of improving environmental health and water quality.

Originally from Egypt, Mariem is passionate about connecting science with community engagement. On campus, she serves as a UConn Connects Mentor and is actively involved in several organizations, including the UConn Coptic Youth Association, where she serves as Secretary, and the Arab Student Association, where she serves as Public Relations Chair. She is also involved in other clubs that promote cultural connection, service, and health awareness. Through her involvement, Mariem strives to foster collaboration, inclusion, and well-being both within and beyond the UConn community.
